Media Blackout: Man Charged With Attacking Olympic Medalist In L.A. Is 'African Immigrant'

LOS ANGELES, CA - On July 9, 37-year-old Olympic medalist and model Kim Glass was exiting a cafe when 52-year-old Semeon Tesfamariam reportedly hurled a metal object at her face.

She was knocked to the pavement, and suffered a deep gash very close to her right eye and her left eye was bruised and swollen shut.

A witness, Benson Parks, got out of his vehicle and chased down and tackled the suspect, holding him down until police arrived.

Tesfamariam has a history of assaulting women, and was actually on probation at the time of his latest attack.

In a press release, the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office stated:

This was a brutal, unprovoked attack. Mr. Tesfamariam has a troubling history of attacking apparently random people with dangerous weapons. His behavior appears to have escalated with time. We have asked the court to preventatively detain him to protect the public. The court granted that request and he is currently being held without bail.
His first felony assault occurred in 2018 and the second in 2019. He was initially sentenced to a probationary sentence and later received a state prison term and was on parole at the time of this offense.

In August 2020, he even attacked former L.A. County prosecutor, Irene Lee. Punching her in the head and chasing her.

Tesfamariam has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and is currently being held without bond at the L.A. County Twin Towers Correctional Facility.

While countless mainstream media outlets have described Tesfamariam as a “Los Angeles homeless man,” he actually came to this country from the African nation of Eritrea. It is not known at this time whether or not he ever achieved citizenship.
