NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA – On August 24, police arrived at a home on Rockwood Road to find Iqbal Singh, 62, at the door, covered in blood, suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds. Once inside, they discovered the bodies of Nasib Kaur, and Jaspal Kaur, Singh's mother and wife, respectively, according to court documents.
Both wife and mother were found lying in pools of blood, their throats had been been slit.
Police responded to the home after Singh's son and daughter both frantically called police, after their father phoned both of them and admitted his grisly acts.
CBS Philly reported:
A chilling phone call between Singh and his son brought the responding officers, with Singh saying: “I killed both of them. I killed your mother and grandmother. Call the police to come get me.”
He then talked to his daughter, who was with her brother and told her the same story.
Neighbors say the now-accused killer was well known. The taxicab driver was often seen walking and meditating in the quiet Newtown Square neighborhood.
Iqbal Singh has been charged with first-and third-degree murder as well as possession of an instrument of crime. He is currently being held at the George Hill Correctional Facility in Delaware County, without bail.
Singh, who was once a world class shot putter for India, has no criminal history, according to Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer.
After making a formal confession to police, Singh reportedly tried to commit suicide. As of yet, no motive for the gruesome murders has been announced.
