VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On Monday, Omar Macera, 30, was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Steven C. Frucci to 35 years in prison, but suspended 9 years and 5 months of the sentence. He will now have to serve 15 years and seven months in state prison.
Last year, he was convicted of raping a minor and possession of cocaine.
The victim was known to Macera, who had easy access to the child, according to court documents.
In a press release, the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office stated:
The Commonwealth's evidence proved that on October 14, 2018, Macera raped a juvenile known to him. A relative of the victim walked into the room and witnessed the aftermath of the assault. The victim immediately disclosed the attack to the relative. By this time, Macera was in the attached bathroom pretending to be sick.
The charge of Possession of Schedule I/II Drug stems from Macera hiding a bag of cocaine in the drain of the home. While he was in jail awaiting trial, Macera called a family member and alerted her to the location of the cocaine.
The woman immediately called police, who retrieved it from the pipe.
