NORFOLK, VA - On July 26, Jose Antonio Canas-Olivares, 41, was sentenced by Judge Mary Jane Hall to 20 years in prison, after accepting the plea deal which the illegal alien and the Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney’s Office agreed upon.
Earlier this year, Canas-Olivares to three counts of raping a child over a three-year period.
The brutal sexual assaults began when the victim was only 9 years of age and continued until the age of 12, when she reported the abuse to “trusted adults and Norfolk Police in early 2023.”
In a press release, the Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney’s Office stated:
Judge Mary Jane Hall deferred her acceptance of the plea agreement pending her review of Mr. Canas-Olivares’ pre-sentence report and psychosexual evaluation.
On Friday, Judge Hall accepted Mr. Canas-Olivares’ plea agreement and sentenced Mr. Canas-Olivares to serve 20 years in prison, suspending another 40 years on the condition that Mr. Canas-Olivares complete five years of uniform good behavior following his release.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Abigail L. Ottinger prosecuted the case.
Under the current guidelines which former Virginia Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam instated, Canas-Olivares will be released after about 10 years.
