FORT MILL, SC - On July 25, deputies arrested Angel Manuel Basurto-Mendoza, 18, at the Miller’s Produce Store, following a chase. He reportedly tossed a backpack containing a handgun at a store employee, before attempting to hide in the restroom.
Since July 7, Basurto-Mendoza has been wanted for the shooting death of 17-year-old Vladimir Antonio Garcia. The teenager was killed in Charlotte.
Basurto-Mendoza is currently being held at the York County Detention Center without bond, while he awaits extradition back to Mecklenburg County.
He is facing several charges, including murder, robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Of course, this is yet another crime that would not have taken place, if only Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden had done his job…
On June 11, 2022, Basurto-Mendoza was arrested on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting a police officer. He was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail on $3,000 bond and despite his immigration status in this country, he was released the same day, after easily making bond.
Since taking office, Sheriff McFadden has made it official policy, not to cooperate with U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), by not allowing MCSO deputies to inquire into any suspect's immigration status, nor will the sheriff honor ICE detainers.
So, accused rapists, child molesters, car thieves, drunk drivers, etc., in this country illegally are being released back onto the streets of Mecklenburg County, if they make bail. Sheriff McFadden refuses to release any information on the number of illegal aliens who actually show up for their court dates after being released, but the number is said to be less than 10 percent, according to court insiders.
Of course, the more serious the nature of the charge, the less likely prosecutors are to ever see the suspect again, at least until he or she commits another crime.
McFadden has even released at least one illegal alien homicide suspect.
