DURHAM, NC - On Tuesday, Francisco Alvarado, 37, was found guilty in Durham County Superior Court of raping a 9-year-old in 2018.
On September 4, 2018, Alvarado raped the little girl, before fleeing to Ohio.
A week later, he was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

Evidence introduced during the trial included significant injuries suffered by the victim, male DNA collected from the victim, and grocery store surveillance footage showing Alvarado buying the child candy around the time of the assault, a press release said.
Nearly 20 witnesses testified in the trial, including the young victim herself, her mom, her pastor, doctors and nurses who treated the victim, police detectives and forensic experts.
Alvarado was sentenced to 26 years in prison.
*In 2003, the Durham City Council approved the “RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS REGARDLESS OF IMMIGRATION STATUS,” which officially implemented a ‘sanctuary’ policy for illegal aliens arrested in the city.
