ONSLOW COUNTY, NC – On Saturday, Jose Madera-Meza, 45, was taken into custody by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol after he admitted that he hit a man walking in the road and fled the scene.
Madera-Meza said that he was aware he hit something and panicked, leaving the man on the road to die.
The Daily News reported:
Early Wednesday morning, troopers say Madera-Meza was driving to work in his company's truck on U.S. 258 near Stillwood Drive. Madera-Meza is accused hitting and killing 30-year-old Jonathan James Palmero and driving away. Troopers say Palmero was in the middle of the highway when he was hit.
Palmero was transported to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune where he was quickly pronounced dead.
Ironically, had the illegal alien simply stopped and waited for emergency personnel to arrive, he would not have been charged, as the deceased man had been walking in the center turn lane, according to Sgt. John Edwards.
Madera-Meza, was charged with felony hit-and-run, and is currently being held in the Onslow County jail on an ICE detainer.
