RALEIGH, NC - On Friday, police arrested Javier Joel Negron-Villegas, 45, after he reportedly ran over a pedestrian earlier that same day, near Departure Drive and E. Millbrook Road. The man was left lying in the road, as the white van that hit him, sped away from the scene, according to police.
WNCN reported:
“Negron-Villegas was heading east on E. Millbrook Road and Downey was crossing the road from north to south when he was hit by the vehicle Negron-Villegas was driving.”
The victim, Charles Lamont Downey, was transported to WakeMed, where he was soon pronounced dead.
Negron-Villegas has been charged with felony hit-and-run causing death, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no operator’s license. He is currently being held at the Wake County Jail on $100,000 bond.
*Of course, Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker has adopted a 'sanctuary' policy for criminal aliens, and, as such, he does not allow his deputies to honor U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) holds. So, if Negron-Villegas is able to raise the 10 percent necessary to secure the bail amount with a bonding agency, he will simply be released.
