New York City, NY - Late Sunday afternoon, police arrested Sebastian Zapeta, 33, in the subway, in Brooklyn where he reportedly set a woman on fire early this morning.
At a press conference, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated:
As the train pulled into the station, the suspect calmly walked up to the victim, who was in a seated position at the end of a subway car … and used what we believe to be a lighter to ignite the victim’s clothing, which became fully engulfed in a matter of seconds.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Zepeta, a Guatemalan national, entered the country a year ago at the US/Mexican border and was flown to New York by the Biden administration, according to sources with the NYPD.
