FONTANA, CA – On Wednesday, after distributing images of the suspect to the public, police arrested Raul Alzaga, 28, who was wanted for two sexual assaults, earlier in the week. One of the victims is a disabled woman.
Shortly after midnight, on June 1, Alzaga broke into an elderly woman's home in the 7800 block of Juniper Avenue, entering through a window, according to court documents.
The victim is paralyzed from the waist down.
CBS News Los Angeles reported:
“This man threw her on the floor, and her legs don’t work,” her daughter said. “He knew she was vulnerable, and he didn’t just leave. It was a four-hour ordeal.”
During the attack, the sun came up, giving the woman the chance to see his face and distinctive tattoos, which allowed her to positively identify him.
“She definitely thought her life was over,” her daughter said. “And she just pled with God that this isn’t the way it ends.”
Alzaga has also been charged with breaking into another home on the same street and sexually assaulting a woman inside that house, which ended when he was scared away by another resident.
Alzaga has been charged with assault with rape by force, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, sodomy and intent to rape. He is currently being held at the West Valley Detention Center in San Bernardino County on $1 million bail.
*Alzaga is a known gang member and a convicted felon. At the time of his latest arrest, he was actually out on parole. Though it is doubtful that he will be able to come up with the ten percent ($100,000) of his bond in order to be released from custody, his booking chart does state “BAILABLE.”
