CHICAGO, IL – On Friday, Amos Yee, 21, was arraigned at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse after his arrest a day earlier. He was reportedly exchanging pornographic images with a 14-year-old girl in Texas, according to prosecutors.
The Department of Homeland Security took part in the investigation, after the girl reported him.
In 2017, Yee fled the nation of Singapore after being jailed there several times, and was granted asylum in the United States, after arriving at Chicago's O'Hare Airport.
However, after being granted asylum, Yee did little to show any gratitude to his new homeland...
The Chicago Sun-Times reported:
Yee again generated controversy in the U.S. when he began posting to his now-removed YouTube channel advocating for pedophiles, and prosecutors said Yee also ran a pro-pedophile forum on a message board.
In a headline-grabbing post to YouTube last year, Yee addressed rumors of an inappropriate relationship with a young girl, in which Yee “argued that even if he did sexually abuse a 14-year-old, it does not change that there is nothing immoral about pedophilia,” Assistant State’s Attorney James Murphy said.
Yee has been charged with solicitation and possession of child pornography, and is currently being held on $1 million bond.
If convicted, his asylum status could be revoked.
His next court appearance is set for November 5.
