WEST HAVEN, CT – On April 27, police arrived at The Surfside Apartments senior living facility, and found Giani Morales, 27, passed out inside a 74-year-old woman's apartment. The woman had managed to escape her home and call for help, after reportedly being raped by Morales.
Morales gained access to the building by following a delivery person inside the building's lobby, according to court documents.
The New York Post reported:
The elderly victim — who moved to the complex for seniors and disabled residents just weeks ago — told cops she went to walk her dog when Morales approached her and “began to push up on her” as she waited for an elevator, a police report shows.
Morales then allegedly exposed himself while standing beside the woman, leading her to retreat to her apartment. He then barged into the residence as she opened the door, police said.
The woman tried to fight off her attacker, but he overpowered her, and raped her. She eventually was able to run out of the apartment by convincing Morales that she needed to let her dog inside.
The illegal alien was armed with a knife as well as a length of chain, according to the police report.
At last check, the elderly victim was still hospitalized, after suffering a heart attack during the ordeal.
Morales has been charged with first-degree burglary, home invasion, third-degree assault, third-degree assault of an elderly person, and first-degree sexual assault. He is currently being held at the New Haven Correctional Center on $1.25 million bond.
Despite his illegal status in this country, this is not Morales' first run-in with the law. In September 2009, he was arrested in Springfield, Massachusetts on drug distribution charges. Of course, Massachusetts adopted a statewide 'sanctuary policy' under Gov. Deval Patrick, and Morales was never reported to ICE.
